T x plates were originally issued by Devonshire County Council, all x T plates are DVLA auction sales
By close of business on 2nd January 1904 Devonshire County Council had registered 87 cars and 67 motorcycles. They had the policy of assigning motorcycles odd numbers, cars with even.
T 1 was originally issued on 2nd December 1903 to Cuthbert Cary of Ilfracombe and registered to a Beeston Humber Olympia Tandem, when he sold the vehicle to Ellen Hillyeard of Surrey he didn't retain ownership of the plate.
Current owner is known and based in the Midlands.
T 2 was originally issued to Harold Cross and registered to a Argyll. The plate was cancelled in 1909.

T 3 was originally issued to Richard Sheepshanks of Chudleigh and registered to a Triumph.

In 1990 Bonhams sold it for £33K and it's fairly certain that Barry Thomas bought it, he sold the plate in 1994 to Colin Richards who kept it for 26 years selling it in 2020. The current owner is known and based in the Midlands.
T 5 was originally issued to William Balls of Newton Abbot and registered to a Rex.
The current owner is based in the South West of England.
T 6 was originally issued to Charles Still of Tavistock and registered to a MMC vehicle.
Current owner is known and based in the North of England.
T 7 was originally issued to Francis Simpson and registered to a De Dion
Sits on this 1937 Bentley but the history is a bit strange, most likely imported in 1996, it looks like the plate was transferred on in 2002. It certainly wore other UK plates as there are previous transfers but it does now wear T 7 and is confirmed as a non transferable 1x1.

T 8 was originally issued to Basil Thompson and registered to a Cadillac. He worked in the prison service and in 1902 was given the post of govenor of Dartmoor prison. and in 1907 became the govenor of Wormwood Scrubs. in 1911 he decided he didn't want such a distinctive number plate and sold it to Joseph Beckett who lived in the same street as him.
In 1912 Harry Tate the renowned musical hall artiste saw the plate and seeing it was so close to his name did a deal to accquire it. in 1935 Harry Tate, whos real name was Ronald Macdonald Hutchison (yes, really) was charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of drink.
Assigned to the then two month old Alfa in November 2002.

T 9 was originally issued to John Trescowthick of Paignton and registered to a Excelsior.
1 T was sold by DVLA in 1989 for £71K

2 T was sold by DVLA in 1993 for £6K. Sold in 2022 for ~£270K, owner is based in the North of England.
3 T was sold by DVLA in 1993 for £7K
The person who bought it at auction in 1993, who lived in Scotland, decided in 2024 that it was time to sell. The new owner is known and based in the South East of England.
4 T was sold by DVLA in 1994 for £8K

5 T was sold by DVLA in 1998 for£ 22K
6 T was sold by DVLA in 1995 for £7K
7 T was sold by DVLA in 2009 for £81K

This plate was bought in July 2020 for an undisclosed sum. Current owner is known and based in the North of England.
