T x plates were originally issued by Devonshire County Council, all x T plates are DVLA auction sales

By close of business on 2nd January 1904 Devonshire County Council had registered 87 cars and 67 motorcycles. They had the policy of assigning motorcycles odd numbers, cars with even.

T 1 was originally issued on 2nd December 1903 to Cuthbert Cary of Ilfracombe and registered to a Beeston Humber Olympia Tandem, when he sold the vehicle to Ellen Hillyeard of Surrey he didn't retain ownership of the plate.

The plate is now owned by Tony Brown and is based in Bedfordshire (he also owns H 1 and N 1).

T 2 was originally issued to Harold Cross and registered to a Argyll. The plate was cancelled in 1909.

On a Ferrari F12 since September 2014, does about 250 miles pa.

T 3 was originally issued to Richard Sheepshanks of Chudleigh and registered to a Triumph.

Last on a Mercedes in February 2017.

T 4 was originally issued to Charles Chanter and registered to a Panhard.

The plate was owned for 20+ years by Colin Richards who had it on his Honda Civic. In 2020 he sold T 4, and bought O 4.

T 5 was originally issued to William Balls of Newton Abbot and registered to a Rex.

T 6 was originally issued to Charles Still of Tavistock and registered to a MMC vehicle.

Placed on a 1985 Opel Monza (remember those?) in August 2021.

T 7 was originally issued to Francis Simpson and registered to a De Dion

The previous picture of T 7 that appeared was actually a fake plate. It actually sits on this 1937 Bentley but the history is a bit strange, most likely imported in 1996, it looks like the plate was transferred on in 2002. It certainly wore other UK plates as there are previous transfers but it's unknown why this plate is now another non transferable 1x1

T 8 was originally issued to Basil Thompson and registered to a Cadillac. He worked in the prison service and in 1902 was given the post of Govenor of Dartmoor prison. and in 1907 became the govenor of Wormwood Scrubs. in 1911 he decided he didn't want such a distinctive number plate and sold it to Joseph Beckett who lived in the same street as him.

In 1912 Harry Tate the renowned musical hall artiste saw the plate and seeing it was so close to his name did a deal to accquire it. in 1935 Harry Tate, whos real name was Ronald Macdonald Hutchison (yes, really) was charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under the iunfluence of drink.

Assigned to the then two month old Alfa in November 2002.

T 9 was originally issued to John Trescowthick of Paignton and registered to a Excelsior.
