N x plates were originally issued by Manchester County Borough Council, all x N plates with the exception of 1 N are DVLA auction sales
By close of business on 2nd January 1904 Manchester County Borough Council had registered 212 cars and 109 motorcycles.
N 1 originally issued to William Kay of Stretford. He transferred it from vehicle to vehicle until 1929 when he relinquished ownership ot it.
The current owner is known and based in the Midlands.
N 2
Registered to a 1934 Austin 16/6 that was imported in 2003.
N 3
The owner is known and based in London.
N 4
This plate changed hands in 2022 for an undisclosed amount. The new owner assigned the plate to their Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 770 and I actually have a picture of it.... unfortunately it doesn't have the number plates attached....
N 5
In 1998 Peter Norfolk of Hampshire (who owned the Range Rover in the picture) sold the plate to its current owner, who is known, and lives in London for £25K. They placed it on their Mercedes in 2010.
N 6
Registered to a 1958 Ford Anglia most likely imported in 2002, strangly it shares the exact same date of last V5 change as the Austin that wears N 2. If I was a gambling man I'd take an educated guess that it shares the same garage with the Austin.
N 7
Registered to this 1910 Fuller Felicia Tourer that was registered in 2004 (meaning it was imported to UK mainland then) with N 7. I'm not sure how it came to have that plate assigned but it is another non transferable 1x1.
Current owner bought it around 2010 +/- a year.
N 8
The pictures of when it was on the Volvo's is from when Noel Woodall owned the plate.
Now on a Porsche 911 that the owner bought new in July 2014 and assigned the plate then, it does less that 1K miles pa
N 9 is a confirmed lost plate.
1 N
Not seen for about 20 years and sold in early 2022.
2 N was sold by DVLA in 1994 for £7K
3 N was sold by DVLA in 1995 for £8K to someone who lived in Hampshire. It was sold for an undisclosed sum in July 2021.
The current owner is known and is based in the North of England.
4 N was sold by DVLA in 1995 for £10K
Was removed from the 2006 Range Rover in April 2019. The current owner is known and based in London.
5 N was sold by DVLA in 1999 for £20K
The current owner, who is known, bought it in 2003 and lives in the Midlands.
6 N was sold by DVLA in 1995 for £7K. The owner is based in the Midlands.
7 N was sold by DVLA in 1994 for £8K
Current owner is known and based in the South West of England.
8 N
As far as I can ascertain the owner bought the Ferrari in May 2001 and placed 8 N on it four months later. It was SORN for approx 10 years but then in November 2023 it was spotted several times over a 3/4 day period and then disappeared again, back into storage I assume, just as quick as it appeared. With sub 16K on the clock it's fair to say it will remain a very low mileage vehicle
9 N was sold by DVLA in 1994 for £7K. Current owner is known and based in the Midlands, they also have E 3 and R 5
