This VW Beetle looks like it was imported in 1983 but I'm unable to determine if the plate was placed on it then or in January 1999. Either way I know where it is, that it's parked right next to V 2, and am currently awaiting permission to photograph it so I can show you a better picture of the plate.

Ronald Ludkin of Surrey bought a car in the 1950's with the plate on it. He kept the plate and when he died in 1984 it passed to his Wife Iris. She used the plate until 2009 when she had an accident and decided it was time to stop driving. The Volvo 340GL (remember those?) was a write off and was parked up. When she died in 2015 it was established that to remove the plate from the Volvo it had to have an MOT, so it was repaired and MOT'd. The plate was auctioned at Bonhams and sold for ~£160K.
Current owner is known and based in the North of England..
R 7 is a confirmed lost plate.

The picture of the plate on the Renault 5 was when it belonged to Rob Waler of Frome, Somerset.
