K x plates were originally issued by Liverpool County Council, all x K plates were issued by the same council in 1960

By close of business on 2nd January 1904 Liverpool County Council had registered 113 cars and 96 motorcycles.

K 1, originally issued to Anthony Lester of Toxteth, whose father designed the extension to Liverpool docks in 1877 (a then £4M project).

In 1966 it was owned by Sir William Esplen who was then trying to sell the plate.

Until recently it was on a 1982 Rolls Royce Corniche from new (covering less than 3,000 miles) when in 2018 it was purchased by Saj Iqbal who lives in Berkshire who then displayed it on his Porsche Macan.

The photo of it on the Porsche Macan is a bit special, K 1 returns home to Liverpool Council Town Hall where the plate was issued over 115 years previously.

Saj also liked taking pictures of K 1 parked next to other 1x1's, please check out the Pairs section.

In 2021 it was sold and the current owner is known and based in London.

K 2 originally issued to George Hepburn of Southbank. In 1966 it was owned by Voss Motors of Liverpool, between then and 1973 Noel Woodall bought it.

The current owner who is based in the North of England has owned it since 1973 when they swapped it for W 3 with Noel.

I've decided the Stag is getting a second picture added. This picture was taken in June 1974. 50 years on and the Stag and Plate are still together.

K 3 is a confirmed lost plate.

K 4

K 5

Changed hands in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum.

K 6

Owner is known and based in the Midlands.

K 7 - In 1957 the Duke of Kent rescued this plate from a Liverpool bus but appartently sold it in the early 1970's as it attracted too much press attention.

This is a confirmed lost plate.

K 8 was first registered to a MMC. Current owners have owned it since at least 1966, are known, and are based in Scotland.

K 9, this is a confirmed lost plate.

1 K. Before 1992 it's history is unknown but it was then placed on the Mercedes 190 which was new at the time and it was only removed in 2018 when it was sold to the current owner who lives in London.

2 K

3 K

Current owner is known and based in the North of England.

Taken in 1981

4 K. There is a bit of a myth surrounding the picture of Simon Ward shown with the plate on his Morris Marina in that he bought the plate on a Morris Minor for £90 from someone who didn't know the value of the plate. Prior to that picture the plate was known to be owned by Edgar Ward of Wolverhampton in 1974. Edgar certainly knew the value of these plates as he owned at least three other valuable plates.

Current owner is known and based in London.

5 K

6 K

7 K

They bought the Testarossa in 1999 but waited until 2010 to assign the plate.

8 K

9 K - Does exist and is registered to a 1978 Triumph.
